The Yaesu SSM-17A is a genuine compact speaker microphone designed to operate compatible Yaesu handheld transceivers without repeatedly removing the radio from a belt, pocket or backpack.
It combines a microphone and speaker in one compact unit. Incoming communications are reproduced through the front speaker, while the large side PTT — Push To Talk button provides convenient transmission control.
Its reinforced, partially coiled cable provides freedom of movement and helps reduce strain on the radio connector. A 360° rotating metal clip on the rear allows the microphone to be attached to clothing, a belt, vest, shoulder strap or backpack.
A 3.5 mm external earphone socket is provided on the microphone body, allowing more discreet listening or improved intelligibility in noisy surroundings.
Connection to the transceiver is made through a right-angle 3.5 mm four-contact TRRS plug. The SSM-17A replaces the previous Yaesu MH-34B4B speaker microphone.
Compatible with models including:
Before ordering, confirm that the transceiver uses the Yaesu 3.5 mm four-contact connector. A physically identical plug does not guarantee the same electrical pin configuration.
Connecting the microphone requires opening the radio’s MIC/SP protective cover. Consequently, the water and dust protection specified for certain handheld radios is not maintained while the accessory is connected.
The external earpiece is optional and is not included.
