The Yaesu FC-50 is a compact automatic antenna tuner designed specifically for use with the Yaesu FT-891 transceiver.
Microprocessor-controlled, the FC-50 responds directly to commands from the FT-891 and provides antenna impedance matching across the 160 metre to 6 metre amateur radio bands. It is a practical solution for fixed, mobile or portable operation with compatible antenna systems.
On HF, the tuner operates from 1.8 MHz to 29.7 MHz, with a matching impedance range of 16 Ω to 150 Ω, equivalent to approximately up to 3:1 SWR. On the 50 MHz band, it covers 50 MHz to 54 MHz, with a matching range of 25 Ω to 100 Ω, equivalent to approximately up to 2:1 SWR.
The FC-50 supports a maximum power of 100W, uses 4W to 60W for tune-up and completes tuning in 5 seconds or less, depending on the antenna conditions and the impedance presented to the tuner.
The unit includes 100 impedance matching memory channels, allowing previously used tuning data to be recalled quickly and helping speed up tuning on familiar frequencies. An internal cooling fan helps maintain thermal stability for the matching components inside the compact case.
The physical design allows the FC-50 to be installed directly underneath the Yaesu FT-891, creating a compact and integrated radio/tuner setup. For separate or mobile mounting, an additional bracket such as the MMB-82 may be required depending on the installation method.
The Yaesu FC-50 should not be considered a universal tuner for any type of antenna. Long-wire antennas or antenna systems with impedance outside the specified ranges may not match correctly. For best performance, the antenna and coaxial cable should present impedance within the limits specified by the manufacturer.
Always switch the equipment off before connecting or disconnecting cables. Do not connect or disconnect the control cable or coaxial cable while transmitting. Do not place objects near the FC-50 ventilation ducts.
