The SparkFun Teensy 4 Audio Shield Rev D adds advanced audio capabilities to projects based on the Teensy 4.0. Built around the SGTL5000 stereo codec, it provides CD-quality audio recording and playback at 16 bits and 44.1 kHz.
Full-duplex operation enables simultaneous audio input and output. The board provides stereo line input, mono microphone input, stereo line output and an amplified stereo headphone output through a 3.5 mm connector.
Its integrated microSD card slot can be used to play uncompressed WAV and RAW audio files. The board also provides a footprint for optional SPI Flash memory and a connection for an optional 25 kΩ potentiometer, which can control volume or another software-defined audio parameter.
When used with the Teensy Audio Library, the shield supports waveform synthesis, multichannel mixing, digital effects, real-time FFT analysis, audio-file playback and electronic instrument development.
The Teensy 4.0, pin headers, microphone, potentiometer and microSD card are not included. Basic soldering is required to install the headers and connect the shield to the Teensy.
The headphone output uses its own ground reference. For externally grounded audio equipment, use the board’s line-level output rather than the headphone connector ground.
