The Arrow II Alaskan 146/437-14BP is a high-performance portable Yagi designed for amateur radio communications through low-Earth-orbit satellites in the 2-metre and 70-centimetre bands.
It combines a 4-element VHF Yagi and a 10-element UHF Yagi, providing greater directivity than the Arrow II 146/437-10. The manufacturer particularly recommends this configuration for operators at higher latitudes or applications requiring increased directional performance.
The BP – Backpack designation identifies the model with a dismantlable boom. The fully assembled boom measures approximately 63 inches, but it separates into three sections, with each section measuring less than approximately 22 inches. This makes the antenna easier to carry in a backpack or the optional Arrow Antennas roll-up bag.
The antenna uses aluminium elements and two Gamma Match assemblies, supplied pre-assembled and factory-tuned. It has one independent female BNC connection for VHF and another for UHF, allowing operation with two radios or a suitable external diplexer system.
Its foam-covered handle provides improved comfort during manual satellite tracking. Beneath the handle is a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting point, compatible with many camera tripods. For extended operation, the manufacturer recommends mounting the antenna on an azimuth and elevation rotator system.
The 146/437-14BP does not include a duplexer or coaxial connection cables. The antenna has one independent BNC output for VHF and another for UHF. When using two radios, each radio connects to the corresponding band. Operation with a single radio and one antenna socket requires a compatible external diplexer and the necessary coaxial leads.
When held by hand, power must be kept below 10 W due to RF exposure and safety considerations. The 150 W maximum rating applies only when the antenna is correctly mounted and positioned away from people.
Despite its split-boom construction, this model is larger and heavier than the 146/437-10BP. An azimuth and elevation rotor may be more suitable for continuous operation.
The manufacturer’s roll-up bag is an optional accessory and is not included. Arrow Antennas does not publish an official numerical gain figure for this model.
